Advent Day 5

Sunday - Genesis 12:2-3, John 8:56

Today I want to consider the second major covenant given to us in the Bible and how the “yes” of this covenant was fulfilled in Christ.

In this passage God makes a promise to a man (Abraham) and his wife who are well beyond the ideal age for founding of a people.  They are old and have no children.

For a minute consider again the challenges before you and in doing so consider one core reality of this passage before us today.  Multiple times in God’s Word we are told that Abraham believed the Lord and as a result it was counted to Him as being right.

Today do you believe the promises of God?  If so I believe that God will count or lead you in the challenges before you in a righteous way.  A way that finds “yes” in Christ.  God had a plan and through covenant included Abraham in that plan.  Today He still has a plan and I believe desires that all might humbly seek their unique purpose in that plan.  I feel that God through His word reveals that life will not play out exactly the way that we might will but through Christ great promises can be sought and found.  Would you be willing today to consider Abram’s circumstances, his willingness to follow God, and God’s fulfillment of His promise to bring forth a redeemed people through Christ?  Would you be willing to petition before God the challenges before you and ask Him to help you seek to think, feel, and react in ways that are right and reflect Christ’s work in you?  This advent season pray with an anticipation of God’s leading, grace, and love through Christ for you and your home.

1 The Lord said to Abram… 2 I will make you into a great nation, I will bless you, I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, I will curse anyone who treats you with contempt, and all the peoples on earth will be blessed through you.

Genesis 12:1-3

56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day; he saw it and was glad.”
