John 4:46-54

46 So he came again to Cana in Galilee, where he had made the water wine. And at Capernaum there was an official whose son was ill. 47 When this man heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went to him and asked him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. 48 So Jesus said to him, “Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.” 49 The official said to him, “Sir, come down before my child dies.” 50 Jesus said to him, “Go; your son will live.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and went on his way. 51 As he was going down, his servants met him and told him that his son was recovering. 52 So he asked them the hour when he began to get better, and they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.” 53 The father knew that was the hour when Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” And he himself believed, and all his household. 54 This was now the second sign that Jesus did when he had come from Judea to Galilee.

As I read the accounts of the gospel authors I have always asked myself the question, would I have believed Jesus was Jesus in the 1st century?

This is Easter week.  This is a week in the calendar year I have always look forward to.  As a child Easter was a time in which I had to get extra dressed up for church but usually got to spend some time in play with my cousins finding eggs.  It was also a time the church was full and exciting and we ate lots of good food!  As I have grown older in life and faith Easter is a time in which I place more focus on Jesus’ defeat of death.  For me, Easter is a reminder of the great hope God offers to us through His Son.

As you read this what does the idea of past Easter’s impress upon you?

Today I will begin the finalization of MCBC’s 2021 Easter sermon.  With hope I anticipate more visitors and viewers than most weeks.  In prayer, as always, I ask God how He might direct my writing and the ending result of this week’s sermon.  It is my hope that God would work in only the way He can to soften hard minds and hearts so that many might believe. I want Christ to be seen and heard, not Corey.

Do you believe that yourself and everyone you know are entangled in sin and that Christ is the only fix?  If so what hope do you have for Easter 2021 and what are you doing as a result?  At the least would you be in prayer for evangelistic opportunities this week? Because Christ rose from the dead we have great hope for our days to come, if we repent and believe in Him!
