John 2:23, John 3:21
23 Now when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many believed in his name when they saw the signs that he was doing.
John 2:23
21 But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”
John 3:21
Why do you believe what you believe?
Our text today is simple. Many saw Christ. They witnessed Him in the most physical sense and had first hand accounts of His miraculous works. These experiences left them in a position forcing a decision. Do they believe or not?
The second verse from the third chapter of John helps balance this idea of seeing and believing Christ. This verse speaks of absolute truth and how what is 100% true and right is only in alignment with God. I can only imagine what it would have been like to be around in the first century and physically see and hear Christ teach. I question how I would have responded. Would I have been include in the “many” who believed or would my common sense have kicked in and I rationalize why Jesus was not whom He claimed to be? I feel fortunate I was born in this age verses the first century and have the advantage of considering 2,000 plus years of church and Christian history.
So what do you believe about Christ and why do you believe it? I challenge you to take sometime today and consider your beliefs in Christ. Does Jesus’ daily influence into your life direct your walk in alignment to His word and God’s grand plan? Have your actions recently reflected God’s light and clearly reflect His plan or your own?
